President Ruto Reassigns Julius Bitok to Tourism Ministry in New Government Reshuffle

President William Ruto has announced fresh changes within the national government, transferring Basic Education Principal Secretary Julius Bitok to the State Department for Tourism under the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife.

The latest reshuffle also sees John Lekakeny Ololtuaa, who previously served as the Tourism Principal Secretary, move to the State Department for Basic Education in a direct swap between the two senior officials.

The changes were communicated in a statement issued by Head of Public Service Felix Koskei, who confirmed that the new appointments take effect immediately.

Bitok Leaves Education Docket

Before the reshuffle, Julius Bitok headed the State Department for Basic Education, where he oversaw key education policies and reforms. His reassignment now places him in charge of promoting Kenya's tourism sector, one of the country's major economic pillars.

Meanwhile, John Lekakeny Ololtuaa returns to the Ministry of Education to lead the Basic Education department. Ololtuaa previously served in the education sector and is expected to take over the docket with immediate effect.

Government Reshuffle Takes Immediate Effect

According to the Executive Office of the President, the changes are part of ongoing adjustments aimed at strengthening service delivery across government ministries.

The announcement comes at a time when the education sector has been facing increased pressure due to incidents of student unrest and challenges affecting learning institutions across the country.

Focus Shifts to Tourism and Education

With Julius Bitok taking over tourism matters and Ololtuaa assuming responsibility for basic education, attention will now turn to how the two Principal Secretaries steer their respective departments.

The reshuffle underscores President Ruto's continued efforts to reorganize key government offices in pursuit of improved efficiency and effective implementation of national policies.
