Spanish giants Real Madrid have reportedly reached an agreement with Chelsea to sign left-back Marc Cucurella in one of the biggest moves of the summer transfer window.
The 27-year-old defender is expected to complete his switch to the Santiago Bernabéu after finishing his international commitments with Spain at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Reports indicate that the transfer package is worth around £47.5 million, with additional performance-related bonuses potentially increasing the overall fee to more than £51 million.
Real Madrid Win Race for Cucurella
Several clubs had expressed interest in the Spanish international, including Barcelona, Manchester City and Atletico Madrid. However, Real Madrid emerged as Cucurella's preferred destination, with new manager José Mourinho reportedly identifying the Chelsea star as a priority target.
The move marks a return to Spanish football for the former Barcelona academy player, who has spent the last four years in the Premier League following his transfer from Brighton & Hove Albion to Chelsea in 2022.
Chelsea Set to Part Ways With Experienced Defender
Chelsea are willing to sanction the sale despite Cucurella being a key member of the squad. The departure presents a challenge for incoming head coach Xabi Alonso, who is already facing a shortage of experienced players in several positions.
The Blues initially paid around £63 million to bring Cucurella to Stamford Bridge, meaning the club will recover a significant portion of their investment through the deal.
New Era at the Bernabéu
Real Madrid are continuing an ambitious squad rebuild after a disappointing campaign. The addition of Cucurella is expected to strengthen the left side of the defence and provide valuable experience as the club aims to compete for major honours next season.
An official announcement is anticipated once the World Cup concludes and the remaining paperwork is finalized.
