Thousands of households and businesses across Kenya are expected to experience temporary power interruptions after Kenya Power announced scheduled maintenance works affecting seven counties.
According to the utility company, the planned outages are aimed at improving electricity infrastructure, replacing faulty equipment, and carrying out essential maintenance to enhance the reliability of the national grid.
Counties Affected by the Scheduled Power Interruptions
The exercise will impact selected areas in:
- Nairobi County
- Kiambu County
- Kajiado County
- Uasin Gishu County
- Kisii County
- Mombasa County
- Kwale County
Most of the affected regions are expected to experience power cuts between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., while some coastal areas will have shorter interruption periods ending at 3:00 p.m..
Areas Expected to Experience Blackouts
In Nairobi, customers in parts of the Spring Valley area, including sections along Kihara Road and Ngecha Road, will be affected.
Residents and businesses in Rongai and Gataka in Kajiado County are also set to experience disruptions, with several shopping centres, schools, and commercial establishments expected to remain without electricity during the maintenance period.
In Uasin Gishu County, the outages will affect areas such as Chuiyat, Lingwai, Tulwet, Bindura, and surrounding neighbourhoods. Meanwhile, parts of Gesusu and nearby areas in Kisii County have also been listed among the affected locations.
Kiambu County will witness interruptions in areas including Sigona, Zambezi, Nderi, Muguga, Kamangu Shopping Centre, and neighbouring regions.
Along the Coast, selected areas in Mombasa and Kwale counties will experience temporary electricity disruptions as engineers undertake network upgrades and maintenance works.
Why Kenya Power Is Carrying Out the Maintenance
Kenya Power says the scheduled shutdowns are necessary to facilitate:
- Replacement of aging infrastructure;
- Repair of faulty power lines and transformers;
- Installation of new customer connections;
- Vegetation management near power lines; and
- Improvement of service reliability.
Customers Advised to Prepare
The utility company has urged residents, institutions, and businesses in the affected regions to make adequate arrangements to minimize disruptions during the maintenance period.
Customers are encouraged to switch off electrical appliances and plan their activities accordingly until power supply is fully restored.
While the planned outages may inconvenience consumers, Kenya Power maintains that the exercise is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the country's electricity distribution network and provide more reliable services to customers nationwide.
