Lang’ata MP Jalang’o Announces Nairobi Senate Bid, Sets Up Contest With Edwin Sifuna

Lang’ata Member of Parliament Phelix Odiwuor, widely known as Jalang’o, has officially revealed plans to vie for the Nairobi Senate seat in the 2027 General Election, positioning himself against the incumbent Nairobi Senator, Edwin Sifuna.

In an interview aired on Radio 47, Jalang’o confirmed his intention to pursue the senatorial post, marking a notable shift from his current role as the MP for Lang’ata, a seat he secured in the 2022 elections under the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket.

The media personality‑turned‑politician stressed that his decision to run for Senate is rooted in his personal assessment of his political journey and extensive engagement with communities across Nairobi. He emphasized that he will seek ODM’s nomination if he officially enters the race.

Political Alignments and Strategic Moves

Recent public appearances alongside key figures such as Lands Principal Secretary Nixon Korir and South C Ward MCA Abass Khalif—who has declared his intention to compete for the Lang’ata parliamentary seat—have fueled speculation about strategic planning ahead of the 2027 polls.

Observers see these developments as part of broader manoeuvres within Nairobi’s political landscape, with Jalang’o’s shift opening the Lang’ata seat for new contenders while he targets a higher office.

Potential Clash With Current Senator

If Jalang’o’s bid materializes, it is expected to set up a high‑profile contest with Edwin Sifuna, who currently serves as both Nairobi Senator and ODM Secretary General. Sifuna, a key political figure in the city, may face increased pressure amid internal party dynamics and challenges from within his own ranks.
