The Public Service Commission (PSC) has announced 1,000 internship opportunities under the Digital Literacy Programme (DLP), Cohort 4, targeting recent graduates in Kenya. These internships, facilitated by the Ministry of Education's State Department for Basic Education, aim to enhance digital learning in primary schools nationwide.

 Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Educational Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in education with a specialization in Information Communication Technology (ICT)

    • Bachelor's degree in ICT

    • Diploma in ICT or ICT Integration in Education from a recognized institution

  • Graduation Year: Not earlier than 2020

  • Technical Skills:

    • Proficiency in networking and infrastructure

    • Application development

    • Information security

    • Project management

  • Additional Requirements:

    • Ability to integrate ICT with education, particularly in e-learning and content development

    • Willingness to be deployed to any Sub-County Education office across the country on a full-time basis.

Roles and Responsibilities

Selected interns will be expected to:

  • Support e-learning initiatives and develop content aligned with educational schemes of work

  • Provide classroom support and train primary school teachers in using digital literacy devices

  • Assist in implementing the Digital Learning Programme

  • Innovate to enhance the use of digital learning tools in schools

  • Ensure the safe, secure, and ethical use of technology in educational settings

  • Aid teachers in integrating ICT into teaching, learning, and assessment processes

  • Support school staff in developing and producing key school policies and procedures

  • Offer first-line support and maintenance of ICT services within schools

 Stipend and Certification

  • Stipend: Interns will receive a monthly stipend, the amount of which will be determined by the government

  • Certification: Upon successful completion of the internship, participants will be awarded a certificate by the State Department for Basic Education.

 About the Digital Literacy Programme (DLP)

Launched in 2016, the DLP is a flagship initiative under Kenya’s Vision 2030, aiming to integrate digital technologies into teaching and learning processes at the primary school level. The programme seeks to enhance learning through digital content and tools, equip learners and teachers with digital skills, and bridge the digital divide between rural and urban schools. It also promotes the use of locally assembled digital devices and aims to improve overall access to education.
