How to Apply for the KMTC–HELB Student Loan: 2024/25 – Deadline June 24.

 

The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), in collaboration with Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), has launched its financing initiative for certificate and diploma students for the 2024/2025 academic year. This marks the return of funding for KMTC students after a year’s hiatus, with support from an initial Ksh 500 million allocation by the National Treasury.

Who Qualifies

  • Students enrolled in KMTC certificate or diploma programs.

  • Both first-time borrowers and those seeking subsequent loans are eligible.

 First-Time Applicants: Step-by-Step

  1. Visit the HELB portal at www.helb.co.ke, sign up using your mobile number, national ID, and email.

  2. Activate your account through the confirmation link.

  3. Log in and complete your personal profile, including residence, education, institution, and details of your parents or guardians. Upload all required documents.

  4. Navigate to the Loan Application section, select the KMTC Student Financing Scheme, and agree to the terms and conditions.

  5. Enter guarantor information and submit your application.

  6. You’ll receive a PDF copy via email. No hard printout required.

  7. Track your loan status via your HELB account.

 Returning Borrowers: Simplified via HELB App or USSD

  1. Download or update the HELB app (Google Play) or dial USSD *642#.

  2. Register with your mobile number (must match your national ID).

  3. Accept the license agreement and navigate to Loans → Certificate/Diploma → KMTC Subsequent Loan.

  4. Go through the financial literacy tutorial and get started.

  5. Verify your phone number and national ID.

  6. Read and accept the loan terms and conditions.

  7. Answer the financial literacy questions and proceed.

  8. Review your loan details, click Request Loan, then Submit.

  9. A confirmation popup and your loan serial number will appear.

Funding

  • The loan covers tuition fees only, as per the HELB–KMTC partnership.

  • Ksh 500 million have been allocated to support this scheme.

  • Applications are open until June 24, 2025. Afterward, HELB will notify applicants about awards and disbursements.
