Rigathi Gachagua's Impeachment: The Real Reasons Behind His Fallout with President Ruto.

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has shed light on the circumstances leading to his impeachment, attributing it to policy disagreements with President William Ruto. In a recent interview, Gachagua revealed that his dissent stemmed from concerns voiced by citizens regarding various government initiatives.

Initially, Gachagua supported President Ruto's vision, including the affordable housing project. However, he began to question the introduction of the housing levy, especially considering that many Kenyans were already burdened with loans and personal housing projects. He also expressed reservations about the Finance Bill 2024 and the new university funding model, citing feedback from parents who were dissatisfied with these changes.

Gachagua mentioned that his attempts to address these concerns privately with the President were unfruitful, leading him to voice his objections publicly. This public dissent, he believes, was a significant factor in the decision to impeach him. He emphasized that while he never claimed equality with the President, he refused to be part of a team that agreed with every directive without question.

Reflecting on the situation, Gachagua stated, "I never said I was equal to the President; the problem was everyone was agreeing to everything he was saying. I refused."

This insight provides a deeper understanding of the internal conflicts within the Kenyan government that culminated in Gachagua's historic impeachment.
