Mohammed Bajaber delivered a sensational performance as Harambee Stars cruised to a commanding 4-0 victory over Lesotho in an international friendly played at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Pretoria, South Africa.
The emphatic win marked a remarkable response from Benni McCarthy’s side, who had settled for a 1-1 draw against the same opponents just days earlier. Kenya looked sharper, more aggressive, and far more clinical in front of goal as they dominated proceedings from start to finish.
Bajaber Leads Kenya's Attack
Bajaber wasted no time making his presence felt. The forward capitalized on a defensive error in the ninth minute after Richard Odada won possession high up the pitch, allowing the Tanzanian-based attacker to slot home and give Kenya an early lead.
The Harambee Stars continued to control the match and doubled their advantage shortly after the restart. Bajaber once again found himself in the right place, connecting with a low cross to register his second goal of the evening.
Lawrence Okoth Completes the Rout
Head coach Benni McCarthy introduced several fresh faces in the second half, including goalkeeper Caleb Kramer, Sydney Agina, Samuel-Henia Kamau, Amos Nondi, and Finland-based striker Lawrence Okoth.
After settling into the game, the substitutes made an immediate impact. Agina threaded a brilliant pass to Okoth, who calmly fired home Kenya’s third goal in the 83rd minute.
Just four minutes later, Bajaber turned provider, sending a superb cross that Okoth controlled brilliantly before finishing low into the net to complete his brace and seal a convincing victory for the East Africans.
Debutants Impress Benni McCarthy
The match also provided an opportunity for several new players to showcase their abilities. England-based defender Deonysus Woodman made his debut and partnered Alphonce Omija in central defence, helping Kenya keep a clean sheet.
McCarthy's squad rotation paid off as the team displayed improved organization, attacking intent, and defensive discipline throughout the encounter.
Positive Signs Ahead of AFCON 2027
The dominant performance offers encouraging signs for Harambee Stars as they continue preparations for upcoming international assignments and the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which Kenya will co-host.
With Mohammed Bajaber producing a man-of-the-match display and Lawrence Okoth showcasing his finishing ability, Benni McCarthy will be pleased with the attacking options at his disposal.
