NTSA to Replace Physical Logbooks With Digital System Starting June

Kenyan motorists will soon stop using physical vehicle logbooks after the National Transport and Safety Authority announced plans to introduce a fully digital logbook system beginning June 10, 2026.

The new electronic logbook platform, known as the eLogbook, is expected to modernize vehicle ownership records and curb fraud that has long affected vehicle transfers in the country. According to NTSA Director General Nashon Kondiwa, the move is part of broader efforts to digitize transport services and eliminate loopholes exploited by fraudsters.

How the NTSA eLogbook System Will Work

Under the upcoming system, vehicle owners will access their logbooks digitally through their eCitizen accounts instead of carrying printed documents.

Once a vehicle transfer is completed online, ownership details will automatically update in real time. NTSA says the system will feature advanced encryption and secure hashing technology to prevent forgery and unauthorized alterations.

The authority also revealed that the digital logbooks will include QR code verification, allowing buyers, banks, insurance companies, and law enforcement officers to instantly confirm ownership details before transactions are finalized.

NTSA Says Digital Shift Will Fight Fraud

NTSA believes the digital transition will significantly reduce cases of fake logbooks and fraudulent vehicle sales that have caused losses to many Kenyans over the years.

Speaking on the rollout, Kondiwa noted that the system is designed to remove unnecessary bureaucracy while improving access to services for wananchi.

The authority added that the eLogbook initiative will strengthen transparency and provide more reliable transport sector data that can support smarter planning and regulation in Kenya’s transport industry.

Vehicle Owners Encouraged to Prepare for Transition

Motorists are expected to use their eCitizen accounts to manage vehicle ownership records once the system officially launches in June.

NTSA has continued expanding its online services through the official NTSA portal and the NTSA eCitizen platform, where Kenyans can already access services such as vehicle registration, driving license renewal, inspection booking, and traffic offense payments.

The move marks another major step in Kenya’s ongoing digital transformation agenda aimed at improving government service delivery and enhancing security across public systems.
