Manchester United Edge Nottingham Forest in Thriller as Bruno Fernandes Makes Premier League History

Manchester United secured a dramatic 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford in a lively Premier League encounter that guaranteed the Red Devils a third-place finish and a return to Champions League football next season.

The match was packed with goals, controversy, emotional moments and a historic achievement for captain Bruno Fernandes, who equaled the Premier League single-season assist record with his 20th assist of the campaign.

United started strongly and took an early lead through Luke Shaw, whose sixth-minute strike marked his first goal in more than three years. The hosts controlled much of the first half and could have extended their advantage before the break after several dangerous attacks.

Forest responded immediately after halftime when defender Morato headed home to level the score. However, the game soon descended into controversy after Matheus Cunha restored United’s lead with a goal that appeared to involve a clear handball during the build-up. Despite strong protests from Forest players and fans, VAR allowed the goal to stand.

The decisive moment came in the 76th minute when Fernandes delivered a brilliant cross for Bryan Mbeumo to score United’s third goal. That assist moved Fernandes level with Premier League legends Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne for the most assists recorded in a single Premier League season.

Forest refused to give up and pulled one back through Morgan Gibbs-White, who produced a superb improvised finish after clever play from Elliot Anderson. The visitors pushed hard in the closing stages, but United managed to hold on for all three points.

The match also carried emotional significance for veteran midfielder Casemiro, who received a standing ovation from supporters during what is expected to be his final appearance at Old Trafford. Interim manager Michael Carrick praised the squad’s progress after guiding the club back into the Champions League places following a difficult season.

With the win, Manchester United confirmed third place in the Premier League standings, while Nottingham Forest finished the season safely above the relegation zone after battling hard throughout the campaign.
