Crystal Palace Take Giant Step Toward Europa Conference League Final With 3-1 Win Over Shakhtar Donetsk

Crystal Palace moved within touching distance of the UEFA Europa Conference League final after securing a superb 3-1 away victory against Shakhtar Donetsk in the first leg of their semi-final clash.

Oliver Glasner’s side delivered a clinical counterattacking performance in Krakow, earning a crucial two-goal advantage ahead of the return leg at Selhurst Park next week.

The visitors made the perfect start when Ismaila Sarr found the back of the net after just 21 seconds, setting a new record for the fastest goal in Europa Conference League history. Palace sliced through the Shakhtar defence with a rapid attacking move before Sarr calmly finished to stun the home crowd early on.

Despite falling behind almost immediately, Shakhtar responded positively and controlled large portions of possession throughout the contest. The Ukrainian side created pressure from set-pieces and wide areas, but Palace remained disciplined defensively and dangerous on the break.

Shakhtar finally drew level shortly after halftime through Oleh Ocheretko, who capitalised on a corner situation to make it 1-1 and briefly shift momentum in the hosts’ favour.

However, Palace responded brilliantly. Japanese midfielder Daichi Kamada restored the Eagles’ lead in the 58th minute after a clever long-throw routine caught the Shakhtar defence off guard. Kamada later turned provider, assisting substitute Jorgen Strand Larsen for Palace’s third goal late in the game.

The late strike could prove decisive in the tie, giving the Premier League side a commanding cushion heading into the second leg in London.

Speaking after the match, Palace manager Oliver Glasner praised his team’s mentality and unity following another impressive European performance.

The victory continues Crystal Palace’s remarkable European campaign and puts them on the verge of reaching their first major continental final. The winners of the tie will face either Rayo Vallecano or Strasbourg in the Europa Conference League final later this month.

Palace supporters will now be confident their team can finish the job at Selhurst Park and complete one of the club’s greatest achievements in European football history.
