Raphael Tuju Quits Jubilee Party, Says He No Longer Has Value to Add.

Raphael Tuju announced his decision to resign from the party, stating: “At the present time, I see no more value that I can add to the Jubilee Party.”

Tuju, who served as Jubilee Party Secretary-General from 2016 to 2022, expressed gratitude for the opportunity and acknowledged the bold step taken by Kenyatta. He highlighted that coming from the Luo community into a party largely anchored in the Kikuyu and Kalenjin regions represented a deliberate effort to build a truly national, inclusive political movement

He also cited being out of the country for six weeks, which left him disconnected from recent developments within Jubilee.

Tuju reflected on pivotal moments in Kenya’s political history:

  • The 2018 Hand-Shake between Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga, which, while aimed at stabilizing the country, deepened internal party divisions and strained his relationship with then Deputy President William Ruto.

  • The Gen Z protests of 2024, which led President Ruto to make a peace-oriented ‘hand-shake’ with Raila, mirroring Uhuru’s similar move in 2018.

Despite stepping away from Jubilee, Tuju affirmed his continued loyalty to Kenyatta and his hopes for a united Kenya that prioritizes tackling unemployment and poverty over tribal divisions.

Before his resignation, Tuju served as Executive Director of the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance, a coalition chaired by Uhuru Kenyatta and led by Raila Odinga.
