The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has officially removed Gloria Orwoba from her role as a nominated senator, and replaced her with Consolata Nabwire Wakwabubi. This move, effective from August 15, 2025, marks the end of Orwoba’s tenure in the Senate.
What Led to Orwoba’s Exit?
The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) expelled Orwoba in May 2025, citing violations of the party’s constitution and code of conduct—labeling her actions as gross misconduct. The party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) unanimously endorsed the decision based on recommendations from its Disciplinary Committee.
Orwoba’s expulsion followed her attendance at the homecoming ceremony of political heavyweight Fred Matiang’i, along with critical remarks about the government's labor mobility program—actions viewed by UDA as disloyal and contrary to party values.
Legal Battle and Final Outcome
Orwoba challenged her expulsion in court, but her efforts were dismissed due to procedural shortcomings and limitations in justifying internal party actions. Shortly after, the IEBC issued the gazette notice formalizing her replacement.
