CHAN 2024 Ticketing Meltdown: Portal Crashes as Kenya vs. Madagascar Tickets Go Live.

Chaos erupted when the official Mookh ticketing platform crashed just as tickets for the much-anticipated CHAN 2024 quarter-final showdown between Kenya and Madagascar went on sale. Fans were left frustrated and unable to secure their seats at Nairobi’s Moi International Sports Centre, as access to the platform failed under overwhelming demand.

High Demand Sparks Digital Meltdown

As of noon on Tuesday, eager fans attempting to buy tickets were locked out when the portal—operated by Mookh—crashed due to an influx of traffic beyond its capacity. What should have been seamless became a digital logjam, leaving thousands in suspense with ticket purchase incomplete.

Ticket Not Guaranteed: Security Breaches Lead to CAF Sanctions

This didn’t come as an isolated problem. Earlier matches—including Kenya vs. Morocco on August 10—were marred by security lapses, with fans storming the stadium without proper tickets. In response, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) fined the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) a total of KSh 12.8 million and reduced stadium capacity for subsequent matches.

Reduced Capacity, Tightened Measures

For the Kenya–Madagascar quarter-final, CAF capped attendance at just 27,000 fans—significantly below Kasarani's 48,000-seat capacity—as part of stricter crowd control measures. Despite the measures, the overwhelming interest in attendance continues to test the limits of the digital ticketing system.
